DODA: The Inter-District Union Territory-level Rifle Shooting Competition for boys and girls began at the Shooting Range in Doda on Sunday, bringing together young shooters from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), the competition is being held in accordance with the activity calendar issued by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, J&K.
The event was inaugurated by the Commanding Officer of 10 Rashtriya Rifles, who attended the opening ceremony as chief guest in the presence of District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Ashok Kumar, coaches, managers, technical officials and participating athletes.
Addressing the participants, the Army officer encouraged the shooters to remain focused and disciplined, highlighting the importance of concentration, precision and sportsmanship in the sport. He also urged young people to stay away from drug abuse and anti-social activities, stressing the role of sports in character building and personal development.
According to organisers, around 40 shooters representing various districts of Jammu and Kashmir are competing in the open sight rifle shooting event across boys’ and girls’ categories.
Officials said the competition provides a platform for young athletes to demonstrate their shooting skills while gaining exposure to higher-level competition.
The event is being conducted under the supervision of DYSSO Doda Ashok Kumar and under the overall direction of Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Anuradha Gupta.
The competition will conclude after the completion of scheduled events and declaration of results.
