SRINAGAR: The 20th Senior Men’s and 16th Senior Women’s National Cycle Polo Federation Cup 2026 got underway at the Polo Ground in Srinagar, with teams from across the country participating in the national championship.
Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Cycle Polo Association under the aegis of the Cycle Polo Federation of India (CPFI) and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, the tournament is being held from September 26 to 29.
Teams representing the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Territorial Army, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir are competing in the event.
Managing Director of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) Mehmood Ahmad Shah attended the opening ceremony as chief guest. He highlighted the historical association of Srinagar’s Polo Ground with traditional polo and noted the growing popularity of cycle polo as a competitive sport.
Shah also interacted with team captains and wished the participants success in the championship.
Among those present at the inaugural function were CPFI secretary Chandan Kumar Pandey, CPFI president Suvinder Mullick, State Polo Association secretary Sheikh Zulfikar, Legends School of Education chairman Imran Shah, CPFI member Ahsan Ali and Red Stone Managing Director Umar Farooq.
Organisers said the championship aims to provide a national platform for players and promote the development of cycle polo in Jammu and Kashmir and across the country.
