SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Police on Saturday organised a zonal-level conference at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir, to review and strengthen the implementation of beat-level policing across the Valley.
The conference was chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Sujit Kumar, and attended by Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from all districts of Kashmir, SSP PCR Kashmir and other field officers.
Addressing the participants, the IGP emphasised the importance of an effective, accountable and technology-enabled beat system as a key component of preventive and community-oriented policing.
During the conference, Range DIGs reviewed the current status of beat policing and discussed challenges in its implementation. Discussions focused on beat structuring, crime mapping, identification of vulnerable locations, surveillance measures and coordination mechanisms.
Officials also deliberated on standardising the duties and responsibilities of beat officers and ensuring adherence to prescribed policing protocols.
District SSPs and other officers highlighted the need for digitisation of beat books through structured data management and the use of technology to improve field-level policing.
The conference also discussed the use of CCTV networks, police databases and other digital tools to strengthen monitoring, intelligence gathering and crime prevention at the beat level.
Police officials said the meeting concluded with a renewed focus on effective implementation of beat-level policing and enhanced community engagement. Participating officers resolved to strengthen field-level policing through closer interaction with the public and greater use of technology in policing operations.
