SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday said two alleged drug peddlers were arrested in Shopian and Pulwama districts and contraband substances recovered from their possession.
In Shopian, police recovered 2.074 kg of a cannabis-like substance during a raid on a residential house in Zainapora.
According to police, acting on specific information, a case under the NDPS Act was registered and a search warrant obtained from the competent authority. A police team, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, conducted a raid at the residence of Mudasir Ahmad Mir of Kashwa village.
During the search, police said, 2.074 kg of a cannabis-like substance was seized and the accused was arrested on the spot. Further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and establish forward and backward linkages.
In a separate operation, police in Awantipora arrested an alleged drug peddler during a naka checking at Aripal Bridge in Tral.
The accused was identified as Suhail Ahmad Allie, son of Ghulam Nabi Allie, a resident of Syeedabad Pastuna. During his search, police recovered 50 grams of charas and 300 grams of cannabis powder, officials said.
A case has been registered at Police Station Tral under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway.
