Srinagar: Peer Ki Gali along the Mughal Road received the season’s first snowfall on Thursday, while rain was reported from several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing a change in weather conditions after a prolonged dry spell.
According to officials, light snowfall occurred in the higher reaches of the Pir Panjal range, including Peer Ki Gali, marking the first snowfall of the season in the area.
The rainfall was recorded in several parts of the Union Territory during the day.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days and has not issued any weather warning for September 25 and 26.
The weather office has predicted thunderstorm, lightning and squall activity at isolated places on September 27 and 28, while no warning has been issued for September 29 and 30.
For Srinagar, the IMD has forecast mainly clear skies from September 25 to 27, followed by partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms on September 28 and 29.
Jammu city is also expected to witness mainly clear weather till September 27, with partly cloudy skies and chances of moderate rain or thunderstorms on September 28 and 29.
The fresh snowfall and rainfall are expected to bring a further dip in temperatures, particularly in the higher reaches of the Union Territory.
