JAMMU: The Special Operations Group (SOG) Jammu has arrested three alleged members of the Khauf gang from Delhi, including a key accused wanted in 13 cases, officials said on Wednesday.
According to officials, Karanjit Singh alias “Gugga”, son of Arjun Singh and a resident of Dablehar in R.S. Pura, was among those arrested. Police said he is an accused in the Gataroo murder case and several other cases involving alleged attempt to murder, assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and illegal possession of weapons.
Police also said Singh had earlier escaped from the R.S. Pura Observation Home along with two Pakistani inmates. During the escape, police personnel on duty were allegedly assaulted and injured in firing inside the facility, following which FIR No. 39/2026 was registered at R.S. Pura.
The other two arrested men were identified as Naresh Kumar alias “Major”, son of Kamal Kumar and a resident of Arnia, and Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi”, son of Bishan Dass of Makhanpur, Bishnah.
Police said Naresh Kumar was allegedly associated with absconder Sunil Kumar alias “Gokul” and was involved in cases relating to violent assault, rioting and illegal possession of weapons.
Rahul Kumar, police said, was booked in a case relating to the alleged smuggling of narcotics into jail premises under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Prisons Act.
Police said the arrests were part of an ongoing operation to trace absconders and investigate organised criminal networks. Further investigation is underway and more arrests may follow, officials said.
