BARAMULLA: The Inter-District Provincial Level Under-19 Girls Kho-Kho Championship began at Higher Secondary School Daobgah in Baramulla on Wednesday, with 108 athletes from nine districts of Kashmir division participating in the three-day competition.
Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Kashmir, and hosted by DYSS Baramulla, the championship follows the conclusion of the U-17 girls’ event.
The tournament was inaugurated by Assistant Director, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Syed Adil Zahoor. District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Baramulla Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori and other officials were also present.
In opening-day matches on Court A, Baramulla defeated Bandipora by one inning and one point, while Kulgam beat Kupwara by one inning and six points. Bandipora and Kulgam also secured walkover victories against Shopian.
On Court B, Budgam edged Srinagar by one point, Pulwama defeated Ganderbal by four points, and Budgam registered a one inning and three-point win over Anantnag.
The championship will continue for three days, with teams competing for provincial honours. Officials said the event aims to provide young athletes an opportunity to showcase their talent and gain competitive experience at the provincial level.
