SRINAGAR: Police in Anantnag have booked a “repeat” drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
A police spokesman informed that Peer Asif Rashid @ Asif Peer, son of Peer Abdul Rashid of Khushroo Kalan, Srigufwara, has been booked under the PIT-NDPS Act. He is involved in various NDPS cases and has been identified as a “repeat offender” involved in drug-related activities.
In view of his continued involvement in the illicit drug trade and to prevent him from further engaging in such activities, the detention order was executed and he has been lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah, police said.
Spokesman also informed that a drug peddler identified as Talib Nisar Bhat of Kralteng, Mattan, was arrested at Mattan Chowk after cannabis was recovered from his possession. A case under section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag for investigation.
