SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government is considering four major road infrastructure projects worth ₹323.41 crore to decongest Sopore town and improve connectivity on key routes, including roads serving the Sopore Fruit Mandi.
Replying to a question by MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary said the projects had been formulated on the recommendations of the legislator and the government was exploring funding avenues under relevant schemes.
He informed the House that the proposed projects include widening and upgradation of the Sopore–Mazbugh–Ladoora road at an estimated cost of ₹249.52 crore, upgradation of the Sofi Akbar–Chankhan road at ₹10.12 crore, upgradation of the Sopore–Bandipora road at ₹29.71 crore and development and strengthening of the Manzbugh–Ashpeer road at ₹34.06 crore.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the projects were aimed at addressing Sopore’s growing infrastructure and traffic management needs. He added that approval under an appropriate plan or scheme was being pursued to facilitate their execution.
According to the government, the proposed road works are expected to improve the capacity and condition of major connecting routes and help ensure smoother traffic movement in and around Sopore town.
