SRINAGAR: Two suspected drug peddlers were arrested on Monday in Kulgam district, a police spokesperson informed.
He said during a vehicle search near Navyug Tunnel in the Qazigund area of the district, police recovered 17 grams of heroin-like substance from their possession. The suspects — Riyaz Ahmad Mir and Hanan Mushtaq — were taken into custody for questioning, he said.
A case under relevant sections of the NDPS act was registered against them.
Four more drug peddlers were arrested in Shopian, Anantnag and Sopore.
In Shopian, police arrested two drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
Murshid Ahmad Malik of Krawoora Imamsahib was arrested at Kiloora Crossing, and approximately 1.210 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
At Babapora Zainapora crossing, 18 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of Muneeb Ahmad Thoker of Beibagh Yaripora Kulgam, following which he was arrested.
In Anantnag, during routine checking at Bypass Library Anantnag, one Jahangir Yaqoob of Hanji Dantar, Anantnag, was arrested after 4.30 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.
At Amargarg Crossing in Sopore, a truck (JK05H-4164), driven by Jahangir Ahmad Dar of Patoosa, Rafiabad, was intercepted and subjected to checking. During the search, 240 capsules of Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus and a cash of ₹47,000 was recovered from the accused and seized. Subsequently, he was arrested and vehicle was also seized.
Cases under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been taken up, police said.
