SRINAGAR: Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar on Tuesday celebrated the 67th Foundation Day of Doordarshan and National Engineers’ Day, recognising the role of engineering professionals in public service broadcasting.
The event highlighted Doordarshan’s journey as a public broadcaster and focused on the contribution of technical teams in ensuring uninterrupted transmission and broadcast services.
Deputy Director General (Engineering) H.P. Meena said engineers play a key role in broadcasting operations, supporting news bulletins, live transmissions and programme production.
Director News, Regional News Unit, DDK Srinagar, Qazi Salman, said the occasion marked both Doordarshan’s legacy in public service broadcasting and the contribution of engineering personnel who support its operations. He emphasised the importance of coordination between editorial and technical teams in delivering news and other programmes.
Assistant Director (Engineering) S.N.H. Abidi spoke about technological changes in the broadcasting sector, including the transition towards digital platforms and advanced production systems. Assistant Director (Engineering) Vinod Arya highlighted the work of engineering teams in maintaining broadcast services across the region.
Assistant Director News Shabir Ahmad Dar stressed the need for continuous technological upgradation and skill development to meet evolving industry requirements, while Editor News Sheikh Mudasir Amin highlighted the role of technology in strengthening news, current affairs and public-interest programming.
Officials said the event also focused on the contribution of DDK Srinagar in showcasing the culture, traditions and public concerns of Jammu and Kashmir through its programming.
The programme concluded with a reaffirmation of the broadcaster’s focus on expanding news and digital outreach and adopting new technologies in public service broadcasting.
