BARAMULLA: Five days after a young truck driver from Baramulla was found dead inside his vehicle under mysterious circumstances in Jammu’s Bari Brahmana area, his family has demanded a speedy and impartial investigation and sought the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.
The deceased, identified as Arvind Singh, son of Janak Singh and a resident of Sangri Colony, Kanlibagh in Baramulla, was found dead inside his truck near the Yamuna Factory area of Bari Brahmana on September 7.
Family members allege that the circumstances surrounding his death are suspicious and have appealed to police authorities to thoroughly investigate the case and establish the facts.
Arvind’s wife, Jaganmeet Kour, who is pregnant, said the family has been struggling to cope with the loss while awaiting answers about the circumstances that led to his death.
“He left home for Jammu on September 3 and we remained in touch over the phone till September 5. After that, I repeatedly tried to contact him, but he did not answer my calls. I am carrying his child and want to know what happened to him,” she said.
The family described Arvind as the sole breadwinner of the household and said his death has left them facing an uncertain future.
His brother, Malvinder Singh, urged the authorities to conduct a transparent and time-bound investigation.
“We want to know exactly what happened. If CCTV footage and other evidence are available, they should be thoroughly examined. Whoever is responsible should be identified and brought to justice. We have faith in the police and expect a fair investigation,” he said.
Another relative, Bajinder Singh, also called for a comprehensive probe, saying the family deserves answers.
“Arvind was a young man supporting his family. His wife is pregnant and there is also a young child. Every piece of evidence, including CCTV footage, should be examined so that the truth comes out,” he said.
According to the family, CCTV footage from the area where the truck was parked could help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events. They have urged police to analyse footage from the site and adjoining locations, identify any vehicles or persons captured on camera and correlate the findings with other evidence.
Relatives said they do not want the case to remain clouded by speculation and have appealed to senior police officers to personally monitor the investigation.
The family said an FIR has already been registered and urged the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) concerned to consider constituting a Special Investigation Team to ensure a comprehensive probe.
As investigations continue, the family’s primary demand remains the identification of all those connected to the incident and a thorough examination of every available lead to establish whether foul play was involved.
