Srinagar: Students of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) have won the One Health Day 2025 Student Competition Award, receiving international recognition at the World One Health Congress (WOHC 2026) held in Lisbon, Portugal.
The award was presented during the closing ceremony of the congress, which brought together researchers, academicians, policymakers, students and health professionals from across the world to discuss issues related to the One Health approach.
According to officials, the One Health Day Student Competition, organised by the One Health Commission, recognises student-led initiatives promoting collaboration across human, animal and environmental health sectors.
Representing SKUAST-K, Dr Ayeman Qamri, an MVSc scholar in Veterinary Medicine, and Dr Shivam Srivastava, an MVSc scholar in Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, received the award online on behalf of the university’s One Health student team, SKUAOHUN.
The recognition followed the team’s success in the One Health Day 2025 International Student Competition, where it secured the top position for organising a month-long hybrid initiative titled “One Health Program-2025.”
Officials said the SKUAST-K team competed against participants from 94 countries and was recognised for its efforts in promoting One Health awareness through community outreach, education and interdisciplinary activities.
As part of the award, the team received an International Certificate of Excellence and a cash prize of USD 1,000.
The university said the achievement reflects its growing involvement in One Health research, education and outreach. SKUAST-K launched a structured One Health roadmap in 2023, including the establishment of a dedicated School of One Health and collaborations with medical and veterinary institutions.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai congratulated the award-winning students and the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Shuhama, on the achievement.
According to the university, the award highlights the global recognition received by the institution’s work in promoting interdisciplinary approaches to health and environmental challenges.
