DC Budgam inaugurates provincial-level sports competition

Urges young athletes to pursue excellence in sports and stay away from drugs

Budgam: Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan on Wednesday inaugurated the Inter-District Provincial-Level Sports Competition at the Indoor Sports Stadium, Budgam.

Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, the competition features Wushu events in the Under-17 and Under-19 categories, besides Taekwondo and Karate competitions for boys and girls across various age groups.

Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the enthusiasm of the young athletes and urged them to perform well and aim for selection at the national level.

He highlighted the role of sports in the overall development of youth and advised participants to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their goals. He also encouraged them to adopt and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

On the occasion, Khan administered a pledge, joined by sportspersons and officials, to stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a drug-free society.

The event witnessed participation from athletes representing different districts, who competed in various disciplines while displaying sporting spirit and determination.

Officials said the competition aims to provide young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their talent, gain competitive exposure and prepare for higher-level competitions.

District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Zonal Sports Officer Budgam, Physical Education Teachers and other officials were present at the inaugural function.
