BARAMULLA: The Inter-Zonal District-Level Football Competition for Under-17 Boys commenced at Prof Showkat Ali Stadium, Khawaja Bagh, Baramulla, on Monday with 18 educational zonal teams participating in the tournament.
Five matches were played on the opening day. Dangiwacha defeated Wagoora 3-0, Baramulla beat Singpora Pattan 2-0, Pattan registered a 3-0 win over Chandanwari, Sopore edged past Rohama 2-1, while Singpora Kalan defeated Baramulla 3-0.
Officials said six more matches are scheduled to be played on Tuesday at the same venue. Each team will play three matches during the competition.
Meanwhile, the Inter-Cluster District-Level Cricket Competition for Under-19 Boys also began in Cluster Pattan, where four educational zonal teams are competing at High School Andergam.
According to the Department of Youth Services and Sports, the competitions are aimed at providing young athletes with opportunities to participate in competitive sports and develop their skills through organised events.
