GDC Zanskar students win silver medals at Ladakh Sports Festival

KARGIL: Students of Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar delivered an impressive performance at the Ladakh Sports Festival 2026, securing two silver medals in inter-district athletics competitions held at Astro Turf Ground, Khel Gaon Kurbathang, Kargil.

Stanzin Zomskit, a fifth-semester student, clinched second place in the girls’ 1,500-metre race with a timing of 6:47.91, while fellow fifth-semester student Chunith Zangmo secured second position in the girls’ 10,000-metre event.

The two athletes also competed in the 200-metre sprint, putting up spirited performances against participants from across Ladakh.

Principal of GDC Zanskar, Dr Amjad Ali Abassi, congratulated the students on their achievement and lauded their dedication, discipline and sporting spirit. He said the success reflects the talent and potential of students from the college and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting sports and physical fitness as an integral part of holistic education.

Director of Physical Education and Sports, Dr Hussain Ali, also appreciated the athletes for their hard work and perseverance.

The two-day athletics meet, organised as part of National Sports Day celebrations, witnessed participation from teams representing all seven districts of Ladakh. The Ladakh Sports Festival and Youth Engagement Month aims to promote sports, healthy lifestyles and constructive youth engagement among young people.
