Jammu: The Congress on Saturday organised a “Chopal Pe Charcha” programme in the Chattha area of Jammu, where party leaders raised issues related to the alleged “Chanda Chori” case, paper leaks, unemployment and restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The programme, organised by the District Congress Committee Jammu Urban, was led by J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president and MLA Tariq Hameed Karra, along with senior party leaders, according to a party statement.
Addressing the gathering, Karra criticised the government over the handling of the alleged “Chanda Chori” issue and questioned the effectiveness of the committee constituted to look into the matter. He alleged that the committee would not address public concerns and termed it an attempt to divert attention from key issues.
According to the statement, Karra also raised concerns over paper leaks and examination-related irregularities, alleging that such incidents had adversely affected students and job aspirants. He said the Congress would continue to raise these issues through its “Chhatron Ki Goonj” campaign.
The Congress leader reiterated the party’s demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as a democratic and constitutional right of the people. He alleged that the BJP had ignored public sentiment on the issue and said Congress would continue to pursue the demand through democratic means.
Karra further alleged that the BJP was attempting to divert attention from issues such as unemployment, recruitment concerns and public accountability. He said the party would continue its outreach programmes to engage with people and highlight their grievances.
Working President JKPCC Raman Bhalla, while addressing the event, alleged that repeated incidents of paper leaks and recruitment-related controversies had undermined the confidence of students and youth. He said Congress would continue to support students and seek accountability on issues affecting their future.
Former minister and District Congress Committee Jammu Urban president Yogesh Sawhney said the outreach campaign was aimed at providing a platform for people to discuss issues such as unemployment, examination irregularities and statehood. He also questioned the credibility of the committee constituted to examine the alleged “Chanda Chori” matter.
The programme was attended by Congress leaders, party workers and local residents from Chattha and adjoining areas.
The event formed part of the Congress party’s ongoing public outreach campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, through which it is raising issues related to governance, employment, student concerns and restoration of statehood.
