Janmashtami celebrated with religious fervour across Jammu region

Large processions, temple gatherings held in Samba, Rajouri, Ramban and Bhaderwah; administrations ensure smooth conduct of festivities

Jammu: Janmashtami was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm across several districts of Jammu region on Friday, with thousands of devotees participating in temple gatherings, Shobha Yatras and other religious events amid elaborate arrangements by the district administrations.
In Samba district, large numbers of devotees thronged the historic Narsingh Temple at Ghagwal, where festivities were marked by devotional programmes and a traditional fair featuring local handicrafts, indigenous products and cultural attractions. Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan visited the temple and reviewed arrangements made for devotees. Officials said special measures were put in place for crowd management, traffic regulation, sanitation, security, drinking water and other essential services during the celebrations.
In Rajouri, Janmashtami processions were taken out through various parts of the district, with devotees participating in large numbers. Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Sandeep Wazir and SSP Naresh Singh, along with other officers, joined the celebrations and interacted with participants. The procession passed through key areas of Rajouri town amid religious chants and festive enthusiasm.
Ramban district also witnessed grand celebrations, with Shobha Yatras organised in Ramban, Batote, Chanderkote and other areas. Thousands of devotees participated in the processions, which passed through major localities before culminating at temples. Special prayers and religious ceremonies were held at various temples, while district authorities made security and civic arrangements for the smooth conduct of the events. Senior civil and police officers monitored arrangements on the ground.
In Bhaderwah, devotees participated in religious observances and a Nagar Prikrama organised to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Colourful tableaux and Jhankis from different areas assembled at Seri Bazar before proceeding through various localities of the town. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sunil Kumar Bhutyal and other officers joined the celebrations. Officials said adequate arrangements were made for security, power supply, drinking water, medical facilities, sanitation and traffic management.
Meanwhile, in Kishtwar district, Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma inaugurated a hi-tech polyhouse established under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP). Officials said the one-kanal polyhouse, set up by the Chenab Walnut Farmer Producer Organisation with support from the Agriculture Department, is currently producing 40-50 kilograms of organic tomatoes daily and has generated returns of around ₹80,000 to ₹1 lakh in a month. The DC said the project demonstrated the potential of modern protected cultivation techniques in enhancing farm incomes and promoting sustainable agriculture.
The Janmashtami celebrations across the region concluded peacefully, with district administrations maintaining arrangements for devotees and ensuring smooth conduct of religious activities.
