JAMMU, Sept 3: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Thursday organised a ‘Choupal Pe Charcha’ programme at Rajiv Bhawan in Jammu as part of the All India Congress Committee’s nationwide outreach campaign, focusing on issues such as alleged “Chanda Chori”, unemployment, student concerns and rising prices.
The programme, organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Urban, was led by JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra and attended by Working President Raman Bhalla, DCC Jammu Urban President and former minister Yogesh Sawhney, and other party leaders and workers.
Addressing the gathering, Karra accused the BJP-led government of attempting to divert public attention from issues such as alleged irregularities linked to donations, unemployment, student concerns and economic challenges. He claimed that rising prices of essential commodities, unemployment and alleged irregularities in recruitment processes had created difficulties for large sections of the population, particularly youth and students.
Referring to recent student protests in parts of the country, Karra said these reflected dissatisfaction among young people over issues related to education, employment and recruitment.
Raman Bhalla also criticised the BJP government’s policies on education and employment, alleging that students and youth were facing challenges due to irregularities in recruitment and increasing commercialisation of the education sector. He said the Congress would take the campaign to different parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Yogesh Sawhney said the outreach programme was aimed at highlighting issues affecting students, youth, farmers, traders and other sections of society. He said the party would continue engaging with people through similar programmes.
Several Congress leaders and workers participated in the interactive session and discussed issues related to unemployment, education, price rise and governance. Party leaders said the campaign would be expanded across Jammu and Kashmir through sustained public outreach programmes.
