Srinagar: Deciding not to contest the proceedings in the case concerning the 1990 killing of Kashmiri Pandit nurse Sarla Bhat, JKLF chairman Yasin Malik, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, has told the Srinagar TADA court that he does not wish to contest the proceedings, but maintained his decision to withdraw from contesting the proceedings should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt or acceptance of the prosecution’s allegations.
In an affidavit submitted before the court, Malik has reportedly sought capital punishment, saying he is prepared to face whatever sentence the court considers appropriate.
Malik has also announced his decision to end his marriage with Pakistani-origin wife Mushaal Malik. He said he does not want her to spend the rest of her life bearing the consequences of his circumstances or living as his widow.
