Jammu: Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in the border district, focusing on checking infiltration routes, regulating drone flying and preventing the movement of anti-national elements in Kathua district, officials said.
Chairing an internal security review meeting, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita directed officers to strengthen the border security grid and step up vigil across the district. She stressed launching cordon and search operations (CASO) and long range patrolling (LRP) in border areas as well as upper Kathua, besides enhancing patrolling along inter-state borders, officials said.
The SSP also directed officers to establish joint checkpoints and check vehicles coming from border areas and national highways to foil the “nefarious designs” of anti-national and anti-social elements.
She stressed greater coordination with security agencies and adjoining states and directed officers to share information at the Sub divisional police officer and station house officer (SHO) levels regarding inter-state drug peddlers, narcotics and bovine smugglers, overground workers, gangsters, history-sheeters and other notorious elements.
Mohita reviewed the functioning of Village Defence Guards (VDGs) and directed officers to strengthen the force and utilise it effectively for border security, patrolling and timely sharing of information about suspicious activities.
The SSP reviewed the general crime situation in Kathua and directed supervisory officers and SHOs to expedite the disposal of under-investigation cases, particularly within the 60/90-day timelines.
She also directed officers to maintain and update beat books and other records of police stations and police posts. Sharma emphasised professional and people-friendly policing while ensuring peace and security in the district.
