SRINAGAR/REASI: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness hot and humid weather on Tuesday, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers expected at many places, while water levels in the Chenab River rose in Reasi after four gates of the Salal Dam were opened to regulate increased inflow into the reservoir.
According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, brief spells of intense rainfall may occur in some areas, particularly in parts of the Jammu division during the early morning and late afternoon or evening hours.
The weather department warned that localised heavy showers could trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides, advising residents of vulnerable and landslide-prone areas to remain cautious.
Meanwhile, authorities opened four gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi following a rise in inflow caused by rainfall in the upper catchment areas. Excess water was released downstream in a controlled manner to maintain reservoir levels within safe operating limits, while officials continued to monitor the situation.
The weather office said rainfall activity is expected to reduce after Tuesday. From September 2 to 10, weather conditions are likely to remain generally dry across Jammu and Kashmir, although isolated to scattered areas may receive brief spells of rain and thundershowers, mainly during the early morning and afternoon hours.
Authorities said river and reservoir levels across the region are being closely monitored amid the ongoing weather activity.
