Srinaga: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday claimed to have trapped and arrested a junior building inspector of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in Srinagar.
According to an ACB statement, a complaint was received alleging that Gazala Akhter, Junior Building Inspector, SMC Ward No. 28, had demanded illegal gratification from a person in connection with the construction of two structures despite the complainant having obtained the required building permission from the competent authority.
The complainant alleged that the official was obstructing the construction work and causing delays to pressurise him into paying the demanded amount.
The ACB said it conducted a discreet verification, following which an FIR (No. 11/2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and an investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, a trap team was constituted and laid a trap. The accused official was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from the complainant, the ACB said.
The agency said the bribe money was recovered from her possession in the presence of independent witnesses and she was taken into custody.
Further investigation is underway.
