SRINAGAR: Several parts of Jammu and Kashmir received light to moderate rainfall on Thursday as the Meteorological Centre forecast generally hot and humid weather with intermittent rain and thundershowers across the Union Territory till August 27.

The weather department said one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at scattered to many places on August 21 and 22. Brief intense showers accompanied by heavy rainfall may occur in a few districts during the early morning and afternoon hours.

From August 23 to 27, hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers at scattered places, mainly during the morning and afternoon hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s evening bulletin, Pahalgam recorded 4.4 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Thursday, while Gulmarg received 2.4 mm during the same period.

During the preceding 24 hours, Gulmarg recorded 14.2 mm of rainfall, while Katra received the highest rainfall at 39 mm. Jammu recorded 4.1 mm during the 24-hour period and 0.2 mm during the daytime.

Other rainfall figures for the preceding 24 hours included Pahalgam (1.4 mm), Batote (3.8 mm), Banihal (1.6 mm), Bhaderwah (1.1 mm) and Kukernag (2.4 mm).

Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 29°C, one degree below normal, and a minimum of 21°C, which was 3.6 degrees above normal.

Qazigund recorded a maximum of 27.4°C and minimum of 19.4°C, Kupwara 28.6°C and 20.1°C, and Kukernag 27.9°C and 18.3°C.

Among tourist destinations, Gulmarg recorded a maximum temperature of 18.4°C and minimum of 12.5°C, while Pahalgam recorded 20.8°C and 16.4°C respectively.

In the Jammu region, Jammu recorded a maximum of 29.7°C and minimum of 23.8°C. Banihal recorded 25.1°C and 18.8°C, Batote 24.4°C and 20.4°C, Katra 27°C and 22°C, and Bhaderwah 25.2°C and 17°C.

The MeT department advised residents, particularly those living in hilly and vulnerable areas, to remain cautious during intense rainfall spells due to the possibility of brief heavy showers. It said farmers can continue harvesting and other agricultural activities subject to local weather conditions.
