Jammu: A delegation from Punjab led by Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Thursday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and raised concerns over recurring monsoon overflows from the Ujh River affecting several districts of Punjab.
The delegation urged the Lieutenant Governor to take up with the Prime Minister and the Union Jal Shakti Ministry the construction of a dam or reservoir project on the Ujh River, or any other technically feasible flood-mitigation measure, following a comprehensive feasibility study and preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
According to the delegation, such a project could help regulate river flow and reduce flooding in districts including Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Amritsar, particularly the Ajnala subdivision. It also highlighted the potential for water storage, hydroelectric power generation, tourism and recreational activities.
The delegation said the proposed intervention could strengthen long-term water management, enhance flood resilience and support sustainable economic development in the region.
The Lieutenant Governor assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities for technical evaluation.
Meanwhile, MLA R.S. Pura-Jammu South Dr Narinder Singh Raina also called on the Lieutenant Governor.
