Srinagar, Aug 19: The Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), University of Kashmir, on Wednesday organised the Annual Inter-Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Cycle Races as part of the university’s annual sports calendar.
Students from more than 20 affiliated colleges, along with postgraduate students of the university, participated in the event. The races were held along Boulevard Road, offering participants an opportunity to compete against the backdrop of Dal Lake.
The men’s race started from Lalit Grand Palace, while the women’s race commenced from Nishat Garden. Both events concluded at the university’s Rumi Gate. Director DPES, Prof. Raies Qadri, flagged off the races.
Addressing the concluding ceremony, Prof. Qadri congratulated the participants and underscored the importance of cycling and active lifestyles among youth.
He said cycling promotes physical fitness, mental well-being and a healthy lifestyle, and encouraged students to make regular physical activity a part of their daily routine.
A medal distribution ceremony was later held at Ground B of the university campus, where medals and participation certificates were awarded to the winners. Students from the Shri Pran Krishan Kaul Institute of Music and Fine Arts also presented musical performances during the event.
Results
Men’s Cycle Race
- Tasleem Muhammad of Gandhi College, Srinagar, won the gold medal, completing the race in 19 minutes and 47 seconds.
- Hamed Arshid of Islamia College, Srinagar, secured the silver medal with a timing of 20 minutes.
- Muhammad Tahir Mir of GDC Beerwah claimed the bronze medal, finishing in 26 minutes and 48 seconds.
Women’s Cycle Race
- Muskaan Naseer of Women’s College Zakura won the gold medal, clocking 18 minutes and 20 seconds.
- Adfara Alam of GDC Pampore secured the silver medal with a timing of 18 minutes and 36 seconds.
- Pakeeza Ashraf of GDC Ganderbal finished third to win the bronze medal, clocking 19 minutes and 33 seconds.
