Leh: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Monday launched the official jersey for the 13th edition of the Ladakh Marathon, one of the world’s highest-altitude endurance sporting events.
According to officials, this year’s marathon will feature a prize pool of ₹1 crore, with registrations reaching nearly 10,000 participants. The figure marks a significant increase from last year’s participation of 6,521 runners.
The administration said the rise in registrations reflects growing interest in the event and its emergence as a major sporting attraction in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Saxena said the marathon serves as a platform for promoting sports and adventure tourism while providing opportunities for local youth to showcase their talent.
He also highlighted the event’s role in promoting Ladakh’s cultural identity and natural environment.
Officials said the administration aims to strengthen Ladakh’s profile as a destination for sports and adventure activities while encouraging community participation and environmental awareness through such events.
The 13th edition of the Ladakh Marathon is expected to attract athletes, visitors and local participants from across the country and abroad.
