Jammu: Hockey Jammu and Kashmir organised a function at KK Hakku Stadium here to honour players, coaches and team officials for their performances in national championships during 2026.
According to Hockey J&K, coaches and officials of various teams were felicitated for their contribution to the improved performances of J&K teams, which secured promotion from Category C to Category B in their respective age groups at national-level competitions.
Speaking on the occasion, Hockey J&K Patron-in-Chief Rajeev Sharma urged players to continue working for the development of the sport and focus on building their careers through hockey.
Divisional Sports Officer, J&K Sports Council, Bashir Ahmad Bakshi congratulated the teams on their achievements and reiterated the Sports Council’s support for hockey and other sporting disciplines in Jammu and Kashmir.
Hockey J&K General Secretary Dr Taran Singh highlighted the association’s achievements since the present body took charge on May 31, 2026. He said J&K teams had earned promotion from Category C to Category B after participating in four national championships. He also noted that the Union Territory Championship was organised after a gap of three years and that several hockey tournaments had been held across J&K, including those organised by private clubs.
Secretary Hockey J&K Tejinder Singh said the recent performances marked a significant achievement for the association since its formation in 2009.
During the function, Baljeet Kour (coach), Gargi (manager) and Sonia (manager) were honoured for the team’s performance in the 16th Hockey India Junior Women Hockey Championship 2026 at Pune, where J&K topped its pool.
Jagjeet Singh (coach) and Taranjit Singh (manager) were felicitated for the team’s performance in the 16th Hockey India Junior Men Hockey Championship 2026 held at Coimbatore.
Minakshi Khajuria (coach) and Robin Singh (manager) were also honoured for guiding the team to a pool-topping finish in the 16th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women Hockey Championship 2026 at Ranchi.
The function was attended by hockey officials, coaches and enthusiasts, including Ajay Gupta, Anil Sharma, Manjeet Singh, Janak Singh, Beant Singh, Rajinder Singh, Charanjeet Singh Sittu, Robin Singh and Anjali Thakur.
