Srinagar: Traffic Police Headquarters J&K has allowed two-way movement of vehicles on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road and Mughal Road on August 12, subject to fair weather and road conditions.
Traffic Police said very slow movement was witnessed on NH-44 during the past 24 hours due to single-lane stretches, poor road conditions and breakdown of three vehicles between Nashri and Digdol. Traffic at Dawal in Udhampur was regulated on a 30-40 metre single-lane stretch.
In view of the forecast of rainfall and inclement weather, commuters have been advised to confirm road status from Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Srinagar, Ramban and Jammu before travelling. Passengers and light motor vehicle (LMV) operators have been advised to travel during the day and avoid night journeys between Ramban and Banihal due to the risk of shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction.
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles, private cars and heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be permitted from both directions on NH-44 on August 12. Security Forces vehicles will also be allowed from both sides after confirmation of road conditions from TCU Ramban. Commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking and wrong-lane driving.
On the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244, LMVs and private cars will be allowed from both sides after clearance from NHIDCL. Vehicles will be permitted from PP Parana towards Anantnag between 8 am and 4 pm and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 9 am and 4 pm.
On the SSG Road, LMVs will be allowed from both sides up to 1 pm from Sonamarg towards Kargil and Minamarg towards Srinagar, subject to clearance from road maintenance agencies. HMVs will be permitted from Minamarg towards Srinagar between noon and 5 pm. Motorists have been advised to carry anti-skid chains on slippery stretches.
On Mughal Road (NH-701A), LMVs and HMVs up to 10 tyres will be allowed from both sides between 7 am and 6 pm, subject to fair weather and clearance from GREF. Vehicles will move from Chandimarh (Baffliaz) towards Shopian and Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch.
Traffic Police has advised commuters to confirm road conditions before undertaking their journey and avoid unnecessary halts at vulnerable landslide and shooting-stone zones.
