Jammu: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Sunday organised a yoga session at the Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront and launched a safety and clearance drive at Parade Sabzi Mandi as part of separate initiatives aimed at promoting public wellness and facilitating infrastructure development.
The yoga session, organised in collaboration with Vishwa Yoga Sansthan, was attended by Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, JMC Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Joginder Singh, senior JMC officers and local residents.
Conducted by Vishwa Yoga Sansthan Chairman Acharya Dr Karan, the session included yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation exercises. Officials highlighted the importance of yoga for physical and mental well-being and encouraged citizens to adopt healthy lifestyles.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yadav said the corporation was working to develop the Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront as a year-round public space and would expand fitness, recreational and community-based activities there. The event was organised ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
Meanwhile, the JMC launched a clearance drive to remove unsafe and dilapidated structures at Parade Sabzi Mandi to pave the way for redevelopment of the market.
Officials said the exercise was undertaken as a precautionary measure to safeguard shopkeepers and visitors, particularly during the monsoon season. The redevelopment project was launched on June 22, 2026, with the foundation stone laid by the MLA Jammu East in the presence of officials from Jammu Smart City Limited and JMC.
According to the corporation, redevelopment and construction works at the market will commence once weather conditions become favourable.
