Srinagar: The Agriculture Department on Monday flagged off a group of 60 progressive farmers and field officials from Srinagar for an exposure visit under the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), aimed at promoting organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices.
Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), Srinagar, Mir Ajaz Hassan flagged off the contingent and said exposure visits help farmers gain practical knowledge of successful organic farming models, sustainable cultivation practices and new technologies.
He urged the participants to actively engage with experts and progressive farmers during the visit, study best practices in organic agriculture and share the knowledge with other farmers on their return.
According to the department, the exposure programme is expected to improve participants’ understanding of organic cultivation, certification procedures, value addition and marketing strategies.
The Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana is a central scheme that promotes organic farming through cluster-based cultivation, capacity building and market-oriented production systems, the department said.
