New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir president and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma on Monday met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and sought accelerated road infrastructure development in the Union Territory, with a focus on improving connectivity and tackling landslide-related disruptions.

According to a BJP statement, Sharma highlighted the strategic importance of Jammu and Kashmir and stressed the need to strengthen the road network to support economic growth, tourism, trade, healthcare, education and connectivity in remote areas.

He urged the Union Ministry to adopt advanced engineering solutions to address frequent highway disruptions caused by landslides during the rainy season. Sharma advocated scientific slope stabilisation, modern monitoring systems and other technological interventions to make roads more resilient and minimise closures.

The BJP leader also called for the time-bound completion of ongoing National Highway projects, tunnels, elevated corridors and flyovers, saying these would improve traffic flow, reduce travel time and enhance commuter safety while boosting investment, employment and tourism.

Sharma thanked the Centre for ongoing road infrastructure projects aimed at improving all-weather connectivity between Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He claimed that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir had witnessed significant progress in road connectivity through the execution of highway, bridge and tunnel projects.

According to the statement, Gadkari assured Sharma that the Ministry would continue to extend support for strengthening road infrastructure and connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.
