Srinagar: Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Monday announced the construction of a new academic-cum-library block at Government Degree College (Women), Zakura, at an estimated cost of ₹5.29 crore.

The announcement was made during her visit to the college, where she reviewed its academic and infrastructure requirements and held discussions with the college administration on future development plans.

Accompanied by Hazratbal MLA Salman Ali Sagar, Director Colleges Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir and senior officials of the Higher Education Department and other line departments, the Minister said the new facility would strengthen the institution’s infrastructure and help meet the growing academic needs of students.

Interacting with students from various departments, Itoo encouraged them to pursue academic excellence and develop skills through innovation. She also heard their suggestions and assured them of the government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for quality higher education.

The Minister said the Omar Abdullah-led government was focused on upgrading educational infrastructure and equipping higher educational institutions with modern facilities to meet evolving academic standards.

Speaking on the occasion, Salman Ali Sagar said the proposed academic-cum-library block would further strengthen the college’s academic infrastructure.

Director Colleges Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir said the Higher Education Department would extend all possible support for the overall development of the institution.

College Principal, faculty members and staff thanked the Minister for sanctioning the project, saying the new facility would improve the teaching-learning environment and benefit students.
