NISR, MDNIY launch Yoga Wellness Instructor course in Leh

Leh: The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh, in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi, has launched a three-month Yoga Wellness Instructor Certificate Course in Ladakh.

The 400-hour course is being conducted in accordance with MDNIY guidelines and is aimed at promoting yoga education and holistic wellness in the Union Territory.

The programme was inaugurated by Prime Minister Yoga Awardee and Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre founder Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena. Director, Department of Ayush, Health and Medical Education, UT Ladakh, Dr Tashi Thinlas attended as the guest of honour, while NISR Director Dr Padma Gurmet presided over the inaugural session.

Addressing the participants, Dr Gurmet congratulated the students on joining the first Yoga Wellness Instructor Certificate Course in Ladakh and urged them to actively participate in both the theoretical and practical components of the programme. He also reaffirmed NISR’s commitment to promoting traditional healthcare systems and wellness practices.

Dr Thinlas highlighted the growing importance of integrating modern medicine, traditional medicine and yoga to promote holistic healthcare. He also spoke about the expanding role of yoga therapists in Ladakh and plans to incorporate yoga into the region’s health sector.

Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena described yoga as a way of life that promotes physical health, mental peace and spiritual well-being. He encouraged participants to practise yoga with dedication and invited them to visit the Mahabodhi Meditation Centre for meditation sessions during the course.

Earlier, Course Coordinator Gopal Sharma briefed participants about the programme schedule and course guidelines. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dolma Tsering, marking the formal commencement of the training programme.
