Jammu: The Mughal Road, the strategic highway connecting the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian in south Kashmir, was closed for traffic on Saturday following multiple landslides triggered by inclement weather.

Senior Superintendent of Traffic (Mughal Road) Mohd Mahroof said vehicular movement had been suspended as a precaution after debris and landslides were reported at several locations along the highway.

Officials said men and machinery had been deployed to clear the affected stretches and restore traffic.

They said the road would be reopened only after it is declared safe for vehicular movement.

The authorities have advised commuters and transporters to avoid travelling on the Mughal Road until further orders and to follow traffic advisories issued by the Traffic Police.
