SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday praised the Omar Abdullah-led government for its response to the recent adverse weather across Jammu and Kashmir and reiterated the party’s demand for restoration of statehood.
According to a party statement, Farooq said the government’s swift intervention and continuous monitoring of the situation had ensured timely relief for affected people and reflected its commitment to public welfare.
He also appreciated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for personally monitoring relief and restoration efforts, undertaking field visits, reviewing the situation with the civil administration and ensuring restoration of essential services.
Farooq urged National Conference legislators, party functionaries and workers to remain among the people and extend all possible assistance to those affected by the weather.
“This is the time to stand shoulder to shoulder with our people. Public service is the essence of our politics, and every party representative must ensure that the grievances of affected families are promptly brought to the notice of the administration,” he said.
Reiterating the party’s demand for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Farooq urged the Union Government to introduce and pass the Statehood Restoration Bill during the ongoing session of Parliament.
He said restoration of statehood was a constitutional and democratic imperative and called on Parliament to fulfil the assurances made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the statement said.
