Bandipora: The Bandipora district administration will work with Eco Clubs in schools to strengthen waste management and environmental conservation initiatives across the district.
Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib on Thursday chaired a meeting with Eco Club in-charges of high and higher secondary schools and students from NMBHSS and GHSS Bandipora to discuss measures for improving waste management and promoting environmental awareness.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the role of educational institutions in environmental protection and called for reviving Eco Clubs across the district. She stressed the need for regular monitoring of Eco Club activities and urged in-charges to identify and encourage students and teachers to lead environmental initiatives in their respective schools.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules and discussed the role of Eco Clubs in promoting waste segregation at source, waste reduction and sustainable waste management practices.
To encourage practical learning, Chib suggested exposure visits for students to the district’s Knowledge Centre, Jal Shakti Kendra, NRLM women self-help group-run cafeteria and Project Insaniyat to familiarise them with sustainable and community-based initiatives.
She also urged students and Eco Club in-charges to adopt zero-waste practices in their homes and communities, saying environmental conservation requires both individual responsibility and collective action.
