Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir on Thursday said it has chargesheeted four accused in an alleged Rs 2.5 crore shawl fraud case, accusing them of cheating a trader by obtaining shawls on the promise of profitable returns and failing to make payment.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a charge-sheet in FIR No. 55/2022 under Sections 420, 120-B and 201 RPC before the Court of Sub Judge Small Causes, Srinagar, against four accused for their alleged involvement in the case.
He said the accused are: (1) Arshid Ahmad Shora @ Bilal, son of Late Abdul Rashid Shora, a resident of Pakhribal Botakadal, Lalbazar, Srinagar; (2) Firdous Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rehman Mir, a resident of Abikarpora, Rainawari, presently residing at Madina Colony, near R.P. School, Mallabagh, Srinagar; (3) Firdous Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Afzal Bhat, a resident of Amda Kadal, Lalbazar, Srinagar; and (4) Aftab Ahmad Shah, son of Parvaiz Ahmad Shah, a resident of Khawabazar, Nowhatta, Srinagar.
The spokesperson said the investigation pertains to a complaint alleging that the accused, led by Arshid Ahmad Shora @ Bilal, induced the complainant to supply shawls worth over Rs 2.5 crore on the promise of profitable returns but failed to make the payment. During the investigation, 338 shawls valued at around Rs 68 lakh were recovered and handed over to the complainant under the directions of the court. The investigation has been completed and the chargesheet has been filed before the court.
He said the Crime Branch Kashmir has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic frauds and report any suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir. Victims may also lodge complaints through email at sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in.—(KNO)
