RAMBAN: Two persons were killed and five others injured after a shooting stone struck a passenger tempo on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) near Ramsoo on Wednesday, prompting a rescue operation by the district administration, police and Quick Response Teams (QRTs).
The passenger tempo (JK06B-9842) was travelling from Srinagar to Doda when it came under a barrage of falling stones at the vulnerable Gangroo stretch, causing severe injuries to the occupants.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban Arun Gupta and a team of the district administration led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operation. The injured were shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Ramsoo, where they received first aid before being referred to District Hospital Ramban for advanced treatment. Two of the injured later succumbed to their injuries.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan visited the district hospital to review the treatment of the injured. He directed the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent of the hospital to ensure the best possible medical care and extend all necessary assistance to the affected families.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed grief over the loss of lives, conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He also urged the public to follow weather advisories and exercise caution while travelling through vulnerable stretches of the national highway during adverse weather conditions.
