UDHAMPUR: Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works Department, Anil Kumar Singh on Wednesday inspected landslide-affected stretches of National Highway-44 between Udhampur and Chenani to review the damage and assess the progress of restoration work.
Singh was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa and officers from the civil administration, Traffic Police and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner briefed the Additional Chief Secretary on the damage caused by recent landslides along the Udhampur-Chenani stretch and the ongoing debris clearance and road restoration work.
The Additional Chief Secretary directed NHAI to expedite restoration efforts to facilitate early reopening of the highway and minimise inconvenience to commuters. He also inspected the Toldi Bridge site and reviewed the progress of the bridge project.
Stressing the need for effective traffic management, Singh directed the Traffic Police and NHAI to work in close coordination to ensure smooth movement of vehicles on NH-44.
He also instructed the agencies concerned to clear debris from all landslide-affected areas at the earliest while ensuring the safety of commuters.
