Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said India’s spiritual heritage affirms that the Supreme Reality and Shakti are eternally inseparable, describing Shakti as the sustaining consciousness of the cosmos.
Addressing the inaugural session of the four-day national symposium “Shakti Mimamsa”, organised jointly by the Central Sanskrit University (Jammu Campus), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, the Lieutenant Governor said the deliberations on the spiritual heritage of the 51 Shakti Peethas would help reconnect people with India’s ancient Sanatana consciousness.
According to an official statement, Sinha said Indian philosophy and spirituality continue to thrive through everyday traditions, from village prayers to household rituals, reflecting the enduring reverence for feminine power.
He described the Shakti Peethas as enduring symbols of national unity, saying they have connected India not only geographically but also emotionally and spiritually through shared faith and cultural traditions.
Highlighting the importance of academic research on the Shakti Peethas, the Lieutenant Governor said such studies would help revive India’s ancient knowledge systems and enable younger generations to understand the country’s philosophy, architecture, art, music, science and history.
He also stressed the need to translate the reverence for goddesses into respect for women in everyday life.
“True worship of Shakti lies in ensuring equality, safety, dignity and opportunities for women in society,” he said.
Sinha further called for preserving ancient manuscripts, inscriptions, folklore and architectural heritage, saying documentation was essential to safeguard India’s cultural legacy for future generations.
He said the symposium would also strengthen national confidence by enabling young people to appreciate the depth of India’s civilisational heritage through evidence-based research and scholarship.
