Rajouri: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, and Science and Technology Satish Sharma on Tuesday visited flood-affected areas of Rajouri district to review rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures and assess damage caused by the recent flash floods.
The Minister inspected the flood-hit Baila Bus Stand, where he reviewed damage to infrastructure and vehicles affected by the floods. He directed officials to conduct a detailed assessment of losses and expedite restoration to facilitate the resumption of public transport services.
Interacting with residents and transporters, Sharma assured them that the government was monitoring the situation and that assistance would be provided to affected families as per the prescribed norms.
He later visited the relief centre established at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Rajouri, where displaced families have been provided temporary shelter. The Minister interacted with the inmates and assured them of the government’s support during rehabilitation.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma briefed the Minister on rescue operations, relief measures and rehabilitation plans. He said the relief centre had been equipped with accommodation, food, drinking water, electricity, sanitation, healthcare, medicines and counselling facilities.
The Minister also reviewed the status of essential services, including ration supply, drinking water, electricity, road connectivity, transport and healthcare, and directed departments to restore damaged infrastructure and public utilities on a priority basis.
Emphasising coordinated disaster response, Sharma asked all departments to remain on alert and ensure prompt redressal of public grievances. He also appreciated the efforts of the district administration, police, SDRF, Civil Defence, volunteers and line departments for carrying out rescue and relief operations.
“The government is fully committed to providing every possible assistance to the flood-affected families. Restoration of essential services and rehabilitation of affected families remain our highest priority,” the Minister said.
MLA Rajouri Iftikhar Ahmed and MLA Thanamandi Muzaffar Ahmad Khan accompanied the Minister during the visit. Senior district and sectoral officers were also present.
