Rajouri: Ministers Javed Ahmed Rana and Satish Sharma on Tuesday visited flood-affected areas of Rajouri district to review relief and restoration measures and announced a multi-crore package to strengthen water supply infrastructure and restore essential services.
Javed Rana, who holds the Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs portfolios, was accompanied by Satish Sharma, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Transport, Information Technology, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Science and Technology, and ARI and Trainings.
The ministers visited the Relief and Rehabilitation Centre at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Rajouri, where they interacted with displaced families and reviewed arrangements for accommodation, food, drinking water, healthcare and other essential services.
Later, they chaired a high-level review meeting attended by MLAs, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma and senior district officers to assess the flood situation and review ongoing rescue, relief and restoration works.
The Deputy Commissioner briefed the ministers on the ground situation, restoration of water supply and other essential services, and the immediate rehabilitation requirements in the affected areas.
Following the review, Javed Rana announced a series of measures aimed at restoring water infrastructure. These include the establishment of 20 minor water supply schemes at an estimated cost of ₹3 crore, provision of transformers for 10 water supply locations at a cost of ₹1 crore, supply of 1,000 water storage crates worth ₹1 crore, procurement of five dewatering pumps, provision of five 125 KVA generator sets at an estimated cost of ₹50 lakh and ₹4 crore for restoration of damaged water supply schemes.
The ministers said the measures were intended to provide immediate relief to the affected population and expedite the restoration of essential public services.
They also appreciated the efforts of the district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma, and various line departments for carrying out rescue operations, providing relief and restoring essential services despite challenging conditions.
Senior district and sectoral officers also briefed the ministers on the progress of relief and restoration work in their respective departments.
