Budgam: Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan on Tuesday visited several flood-prone areas in Beerwah and Narbal to assess the situation following incessant rainfall and rising water levels in Nallah Sukhnag and its tributaries.
The Deputy Commissioner inspected Main Town Beerwah, Hanjigund, Makhama, Chewdara, Kanihama, Malpur, Sanoor, Narbal and Mazhama, where he reviewed the ground situation and assessed the preparedness of the district administration.
He directed the immediate activation of rescue and emergency response teams, including the police, SDRF, Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services and other line departments, and instructed officials to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of nallahs, drains and other vulnerable locations.
The Deputy Commissioner said Station House Officers (SHOs), field officers and rescue teams were monitoring the situation and advising residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate wherever necessary as a precaution.
Appealing to the public to cooperate with the administration, Khan urged people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and avoid venturing near nallahs, embankments, breached spots and other flood-prone areas. He also advised against gathering near water bodies and asked residents living close to vulnerable locations to comply with evacuation advisories issued by the administration.
Reiterating that all departments were working in close coordination, the Deputy Commissioner said every possible measure was being taken to safeguard lives and property and urged people to remain calm, vigilant and follow official advisories.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Budgam Vivek Agarwal, ADC Taufeeq Ahmad Gazi, superintending engineers, executive engineers, the concerned tehsildar and other officers accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the visit.
