Ramban: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan on Sunday reviewed the situation across the district following intermittent rainfall and an adverse weather advisory, inspecting the Nashri landslide site on National Highway-44 and other vulnerable locations to assess the impact of the weather and ongoing restoration work.
According to an official statement, the Deputy Commissioner directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars to remain stationed in their respective jurisdictions, closely coordinate with line departments, monitor the situation round the clock and ensure a prompt response to any emergency. He instructed field officers to remain in constant touch with the district administration and immediately report any incident requiring urgent intervention.
He also directed officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Border Roads Organisation (BRO)/Beacon, the Public Works Department (PWD) and PMGSY to deploy adequate manpower and machinery for the immediate restoration of affected roads. Stressing the need to keep NH-44 and other major roads traffic-worthy, he asked the agencies to restore connectivity without delay to facilitate the movement of commuters and emergency services.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the status of essential services, including water and power supply, healthcare, availability of essential commodities and other public utilities. He directed the departments concerned to ensure uninterrupted services and remain prepared to address any disruptions on priority.
The statement said all essential services and restoration agencies had been activated to deal with any eventuality arising from the prevailing weather conditions. It added that the District Control Room had been activated for round-the-clock monitoring and to provide timely assistance to the public.
The Deputy Commissioner also inspected arrangements at Yatri Niwas Chanderkote and other designated locations where Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims are staying following the temporary suspension of the pilgrimage. He reviewed the availability of accommodation, food, drinking water, sanitation, medical facilities and other essential amenities, and directed the officers concerned to ensure adequate arrangements for the comfort and safety of the pilgrims.
Appealing to the public, the Deputy Commissioner advised people to adhere to the weather advisory and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in landslide-prone and vulnerable areas. He urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with the administration and report any weather-related emergency to the District Control Room or the nearest administrative office.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, SSP Ramban Arun Gupta, SSP Traffic NHW Raja Adil Hamid, NHAI Project Director Shubham Yadav and other officers accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the inspection.
