Bandipora: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Indu Kanwal Chib on Monday inspected vulnerable locations across the district and directed all departments to remain on high alert in view of the weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar.
Earlier, chairing a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the district’s preparedness and flood mitigation measures to deal with any eventuality arising from the prevailing weather conditions.
She directed all departments to ensure effective inter-departmental coordination and maintain adequate stocks of rescue and relief material at all block and niabat offices to facilitate a prompt response during emergencies.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed Revenue and Disaster Management officers not to leave their respective stations without prior permission to ensure emergency response mechanisms remain fully functional.
She reviewed the availability and operational status of dewatering pumps across the district on a zone-wise basis and directed the concerned departments to keep all equipment functional and ready for deployment. She also assessed the stock position of essential commodities and medical supplies and instructed departments to maintain adequate reserves to meet any emergency requirement.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited vulnerable locations across the district, including the Receiving Station Ajas, Tangwani Bridge and Aragam Bridge, besides inspecting other weather-sensitive areas.
She took stock of the condition of critical infrastructure and directed the concerned departments to maintain close monitoring of vulnerable locations, keep men and machinery in readiness and ensure round-the-clock vigilance.
Reiterating that public safety remains the administration’s top priority, Chib directed all departments to maintain continuous monitoring of flood-prone areas and ensure a swift response to any weather-related incident.
The district administration said it was closely monitoring the situation and advised the public to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas and follow official weather advisories.
