Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday said it arrested a Patwari in Kathua district after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
According to an ACB statement, an FIR (No. 05/2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Jammu against Khajan Chand, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Mahanpur.
The ACB said the accused had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant for providing documents after the attestation of a mutation in favour of the complainant’s sister. The complainant had allegedly paid Rs 9,000 earlier, while the remaining amount was negotiated down from Rs 11,000 to Rs 10,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which conducted a discreet verification that, according to the agency, corroborated the allegation.
Following the registration of the case, the ACB constituted a trap team, which allegedly caught the accused red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was arrested on the spot and the alleged bribe amount was recovered from his possession, the ACB said, adding that searches were being conducted at his residence in accordance with the law.
