Srinagar: The Food Safety Wing of the Drugs and Food Control Organisation (D&FCO), Jammu and Kashmir, has intensified its enforcement drive across the Union Territory, conducting 80 inspections of food business establishments and collecting 66 food samples for laboratory analysis.
According to an official statement, the samples included ghee, milk, spices, edible oil, cereal products, beverages and nutraceuticals. They have been sent to designated food testing laboratories to verify compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
During the inspections, seven food business operators were found violating provisions of the Act. The cases were compounded and a total fine of Rs 9,500 was imposed, the statement said.
The department also recommended prosecution against one food business operator for allegedly operating without a valid food licence, in violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The D&FCO appealed to consumers to report suspected cases of unsafe, adulterated or substandard food through its toll-free helpline (104) or by email.
