Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s Committee on Privileges on Wednesday examined two alleged breach of privilege cases and directed the officers concerned to submit supplementary written replies.

The meeting, chaired by Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi, considered a notice moved by MLA Ali Mohammad Dar against the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Chadoora, Budgam, and another by MLA Mian Mehar Ali against the then Assistant Commissioner Development, Ganderbal, according to an official statement.

The officers appeared separately before the Committee and presented their responses.

In the case concerning the former Assistant Commissioner Development, Ganderbal, the officer told the Committee that the matter related to preparation of the list of works under the MGNREGA scheme, in which certain works recommended by the MLA could not be included.

According to the statement, the Committee also took note of allegations that the officer had not responded to telephone calls made by the legislator. The officer told the Committee that he had endeavoured to respond to the MLA’s communications and expressed regret if he had inadvertently failed to do so. The Committee granted him additional time to submit a supplementary written reply.

The Committee also heard the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Chadoora, in connection with the second notice. After hearing the officer, it expressed displeasure over the conduct alleged in the notice and observed that elected representatives should be treated with due courtesy in accordance with government instructions.

The Committee granted the officer a final opportunity to submit a supplementary written reply and said the matter would be taken up for further consideration at its next meeting, the statement added.
