Srinagar: The All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) on Tuesday expressed concern over the alleged lack of progress in the investigation into recent arson incidents involving properties belonging to members of the Sikh community in Tribuni village of Karnah in Kupwara district.
In a statement, APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina claimed that two cars and a motorcycle belonging to two Sikh residents were set on fire on the night of June 30. He also alleged that a house had earlier been torched and other property damaged in the village.
Raina said members of the Muslim and Sikh communities had lived together peacefully in the area for generations and alleged that some elements were attempting to create communal discord.
While acknowledging that the local Station House Officer (SHO) had visited the village, he alleged that the civil and police administration had not carried out a comprehensive investigation into the incidents. He demanded a speedy probe to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
Raina also appealed to residents of the village to maintain communal harmony and not allow the incidents to disturb the longstanding tradition of peaceful coexistence.
No official response from the police was available at the time of filing this report.
